An Artist's Journey
1990's
An artist since childhood, Laila Khan after obtaining a BA Degree in English Literature from Sophia College, Mumbai, went for further training in Fine Art to the Slade School of Fine Art in London, UK.
2001
She held her first solo show with Arushi Arts at the Visual Art Gallery in New Delhi in 2001 where she sculpted sand on canvas and used oil and charcoal to represent the fragility and impermanence of human life against the timelessness of architecture.

Her work is never titled as she feels it imposes a limitation in the viewing process and disallows the viewer the freedom to interpret and derive their own unique experience with the painting.
2003
In 2003, she was part of a 2 person show held by the Arts Trust at Yantra, a gallery in Mumbai. The works here were a manifestation of the female principle as being symbols of creation, union, and transience.
2007

In April 2007, she held her second solo show in Mumbai, India at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Kala Ghoda called “Dreams have no titles”. The show was based on the feminine predicament. Her aim in painting the many women in iconic notions was to transform the complexities of the figure into harmonies of simplified forms, revealing the innate reality, the life force, the spirit, the inherent symbolism and the underlying remarkable structure – to give emphasis to form with the greatest clarity.
2009
In August 2009 she went to study creative and expressive painting at the St.Martin’s School of Art and Design, London, UK. There, under the tutorage of Ewa Gargulinski, a renowned artist whose works are in many important collections, she learnt how to achieve limitless creativity in the visual expression of self, using painting as a medium. She was made to understand the essential elements in the creative process; imagination, intuition, freedom, sincerity and emotion.
2019
Following on from her various charitable contributions, Laila Khan participated in the event ‘Celebrate Life’, a charity art auction at St.Regis, Mumbai. All proceeds from this auction was donated for various charitable causes.
